Alphabet Commits $15bn to Establish AI Computing Facility in the Indian Subcontinent
The parent firm of Google Alphabet will invest $15bn for constructing an AI computing facility in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.
This center, which will be set up in the harbor town of Visakhapatnam city, is going to be a segment of Google's international system of AI centers spread across twelve different countries.
"This represents the biggest artificial intelligence center that we are going to be investing in across the globe, outside of the United States," Google Cloud's chief executive said at an gathering in the capital city of Delhi on Tuesday, mentioning that the investment is to be distributed over the next five years.
The revelation occurs when President Trump of the United States has been asking American companies to give priority to local funding.
India's Increasing Significance in Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure
The nation has risen as a major hub for AI data centres. The country's low data costs and rapidly growing online population have made it a center for cloud and AI expansion for technology leaders.
"The facility will introduce our pioneering tech solutions to enterprises and users in the nation, speeding up AI innovation and driving growth nationwide," stated Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai.
Project Details
An official contract to complete the venture will be signed on Tuesday, state authorities said.
"It is a massive leap for our state's digital future, innovation, and global standing," remarked the state's technology minister Nara Lokesh.
The project will merge computing and artificial intelligence facilities with sustainable power solutions and an expanded fibre-optic network.
Andhra Pradesh's Data Center Vision
The venture is included in the state government's strategy to create 6 gigawatts of computing facility capacity by the year 2029.
Computing facilities are tangible infrastructures that house the computing and networking equipment that entities use to collect, process, store, and distribute data.
These include computer servers, storage systems and networking hardware like routers and firewalls, in addition to the necessary power and cooling systems to function properly.
Financial Attractions
Across Andhra Pradesh, the government has been granting subsidised land and power to attract global investors.
Industry Growth
The nation's data center sector has developed swiftly during the last five years, surpassing the 1GW capacity mark in 2024 and approximately tripling its capability from 2019.
