Ex- Down Under Lawmaker Imprisoned for More Than Five Years for Sex Crimes
A former public official convicted of assaulting two young men connected through work was given to 69 months in jail.

The former official, forty-four, remained in jail since last summer after a jury convicted him of raping an individual and sexually abusing another, in separate incidents in over two years.
The defendant represented the coastal town of the district in the state legislature from the year 2011. He resigned as a political party minister when the claims came to light in 2021 but declined to leave his seat and won again in 2023.

Justice the judicial figure considered his visual impairment of vision impairment in the judgment and found "no different consequence besides detention would be suitable".
Ward, who appeared via remote connection at the judicial venue, will serve at no less than 45 months in custody before he can seek conditional freedom.
The court official stated the court needs to "deliver a strong warning to like-minded offenders that illegal behaviors such as this will be met with significant consequences".

She also said the convicted man had "evaded consequences for a decade and enjoyed a life without a programme or consequence for the offenses during those years".
After his conviction, Ward attempted a rejected appeal attempt to stay in parliament and left office moments before the congress could remove him.
Defense attorneys has stated earlier he plans to contest the ruling.
Trial Evidence
The defendant's lengthy proceedings in the NSW District Court heard that he brought a drunk teenager to his home in the first incident and attacked him three times, despite his attempts to fight back.
Subsequently, he sexually assaulted a young government employee at his property after a function at government offices.
The defendant had argued the second incident never occurred, and that the additional accuser was inaccurate regarding their interaction from the first incident.
The state's attorneys maintained that notable parallels in the accounts of the victims, who did not know one another, demonstrated they were telling the truth.
A jury deliberated for 72 hours before announcing the convictions.
His departure led to a replacement vote in Kiama in autumn, which was won by the opposition party.
